Twilight: Los Angeles

Twilight: Los Angeles demonstrates the roots of racism. As you consider the actions that took place during the riots, take a look for ways that your community institutions and society may perpetuate the problem. Consider whether all neighborhoods are served equally. Schools: Which neighborhoods have well-equipped schools? What are ways to improve this situation?

  1. Its quite clear that there is some bias amongst races. A white cop might be more inclined to arrest a black man committing the same crime as a white man and vice verse. Racism is so deeply rooted in society that it would be difficult to remove. However we can improve on such situations by being more open-minded to change and putting the past behind us (however hard that may be)

  2. The more favorable, high classed area, and financially stable place has the better school because they can afford it and can is more favorable for the schools' county. One way to change is to stop the favoritism toward school areas.

  3. Even though there is not much racism in our time today there are still many discrimination happening around us. Most high class and rich ppl have more of the better things like schools and their community. One way we can stop is by not having favortism.

  4. There is still racism going on today and its sad how some things will never change but i feel as thought the rich get richer and the poorer keeps getting poorer. The rich people has better opportunities and better things than the middle class group of people. The way that we can stop is by not being so judgemental and having so much favoritism

  5. I think racism is part of every culture and its really hard to stop it from being present in our society. I know that there are better schools for the areas where more taxes are paid and less violence that occurs. Like for an example Coconut Creek High school compared to Monarch High school. Coconut Creek is a "D" school, compared to Monarch which is an "A" school. Monarch gets double the funds from the government compared to Coconut Creek.

  6. Of course not all places are served equally. For ex. higher payed areas are treated way better than lower payed areas where people look down apon them and really don't care.

  7. Although racism isn't as pronounced today as it once was, it's still around. It's like that dirty little secret that no one wants to talk about. I think that their is injustice when it comes to some communities being treated worse than others. Could it be because of racism? Maybe. But racism supposedly stems from fear. So maybe if we took the time to bond, then maybe things would change.

  8. Like everyone here is saying, Racism may not be found out in the open like it once was, but it's still has it mark deeply rooted in the society.Though racism may not be prominent, but hate crimes are there and soaring especially with gay teens being bullied at school and causing them to commit suicide.

Not only that but there's a difference of treatment to those who live in nice community to those who live in shady comminuty. Like a rich person would be treated like royalty where as a poorer person would be treated like dirt.

Unfortunately, it takes time for things such as these to be resolved, but hopefully, with today technology such as the internet, cell phone, ect. We, the people, will learn of these problems and try fix them ASAP.
