Group Collaborations

Thus far in class you have been working in collaboration with other students to create performances and work on dramatic exercises. How has this experience been for you? Explain the advantages and the disadvantages. Elaborate on the process of “group dynamics” (please do not use other student names)

  1. My experiences of group performances have been really nice because I think I have had amazing groups, with talented people. The advantages are people in my group want to try hard and receive good grades, and the disadvantages would be that it is hard to find times for a group of people to meet. The process of our “group dynamics” is amazing because everyone cares about what they are doing, and we do not have problems within our group. Our group has established a leader to keep everything organized, and on task. The leader lets everyone else talk and say their opinions as well, so it is the group making the play.

  2. So far in theater class, working with other students to create performances has been a good experience. Working together to create something is a great way to learn on how to work with other people in any situation in life. It helps in being able to speak in front of a large group of people and how to collaborate ideas to create a solution and action.
I’m not sure of any disadvantages.
Usually in group there is a person who takes charge and puts forth the most ideas, but when I’m in a group , we usually use most of our combined ideas.

  3. So far working in class with the other students has been fun. Some of the advantages are getting to meet new people and learning how to all work together. Some disadvantages are tryin to find people to work with & people not putting much effort in their plays. But overall it had been a good experience.

  4. It has been nice to bounce ideas between classmates in a environment conducive to creative development. Some advantages would be learning different perspectives to the same situation, or learning to lead as well as be lead. A disadvantage could be trying to find someone to compliment your strengths.

  5. I've had a great experiences so far, being able to share my ideas, work with different people and collaborate with them. The benefit with this is the ability to brainstorm with the group to construct a great idea for an amazing production, and get a good grade in the class. One problem which I have found is the clash of ideas with students. This causes chaos and jumbles the ideas in the group into a bad play, which leads to a bad grade. In the group works defense it is a better and efficient to work together, but there must be a way to sort out the ideas to make great production.

  6. As for group projects go, it has been a fun experience because you have the opportunity to learn about each other thus able to communicate and work with each other easily. Though at times it's frustrating when some projects need to be done outside of class and not always able to have all the members of the group to come and work on it because of school, work, or other plausible excuses. But you try to work around it and do your best!

  7. For me, working with a group is definently a different experence from other college classes. It allows me to converse and spread ideas more as well allow me to meet new people verses siting in a class room all day listening to a lecture.

  10. I really like working in groups because every one of us gets to share their ideas, and there are some that are really talented. Working in groups help us understand theatre a little more because you get some of the real world feelings that real theatre producers have to go through. When it is time for acting, every one carries their part and we all get to have fun at the same time.
