Stage Configurations

You have been hired to direct a play of your choice. Explain which of the four stage configurations you would choose to mount your production. Why would this stage configuration be the best? How would it help to illustrate the story? What would the audience experience be like?

  1. Of all the stages to choose, I would probably choose the Proscenium stage because the stage is indoors and has like a "picture frame" so the audience will only have to face one direction while having the comfort of the air conditioning.

The stage has the advantage of being able to disguise where the actors appear and exit, props, and sets, so the audience would be able to know when the next scene is by the lightning or curtains making the story being able to flow.

  2. I would use the Proscenium stage, mostly because it is the regularly used stage and easier to use. The play would have to be indoors and in a dark place where the audience feels more comfortable. It gives a better sense to the atmosphere, and keep them more focused to the play by looking at one place, in front of them.

  3. I would pick proscenium stage instead of thrust, arena, or environmental theatre. I would pick this kind of stage because it is more realistic for stories that have rooms, and it is more centered for the audience. Proscenium stage would help illustrate the story for the willing suspension of disbelief of the audience and experienced actors. The play would be audience centered, easy to see stage, and comfortable seats.

  4. I would pick a proscenium stage to use because it's easier to control the audience's center of attention, easier to control what the audience sees and won't see,the most comfortable because they would be seated and won't have to change directions. The audience won't feel much to be crowded by the performers but rather just being entertained with the performers also looking in their direction.

  5. I would use the Proscenium stage for a production. It is not only easy for the audience to be focused and enjoy the play but, it is also easier on the actors. They don't have to worry much about placing themselves in a certain position for the audience to see them because they are all facing one direction. No one wants an actor's back turned to them there's no way they can enjoy the play. With this stage the play would be understood better by the audience because it is easier to focus.

  6. I would choose the Proscenium stage because of simplicity and tradition. Everyone is accustomed to watching plays in this style of theatre, therefor it would be easier to hold their attention throughout the duration of the play.

  7. I would use the Proscenium stage because I like the curtains and how you can only direct your audience to one view, right on stage. I would also like it to be inside without bugs and with air conditioning. maybe a little dim but not too dark.
