Do we need drama?

Why do we need stories at all? With all the excitement available in contemporary life, why do people watch plays, films, and television shows that create an imaginary world? Isn't the real world stimulating enough, without imagining other ones?

  1. We need stories to keep us entertained. The real world might be exciting but we need something that captivates our mind with unreal scenarios. We need something out of the ordinary. That is why we rely on t.v and movies to do what we want without anyone getting hurt.

  3. The reason that we need stories is to take our minds out of the everyday life which is stressful, annoying, and tiring. We use these story to imagine ever scene, character and climax to keep our minds out of the problems in the world.

  4. The reason why we need stories is to help us cope with many different situations. Even though we watch plays, films, and television shows for entertainment it is also used to connect to the outside world. Some people try very hard to fit in with the outside world. The world is full of many different things that can draw us closer to one another or make us stand out from the crowd.

  5. Stories act as an escape from day to day living. Literature harbors creativity. It allows us to visualize a story however we see fit. Rather than watching anothers thoughts or creations we can produce our own. Stories can encourage change, lift spirits or simply prove a point. In the sanctity of our mind we can explore sides of our selves we never knew existed just by listening to or reading a story.

  6. I believe that stories are not only for entertainment but to free our mind. To break free from our everyday routine and to imagine what your life would be like in someone's else shoes; to be the guy who saves the day or to be the girl who marries Prince Charming.
Another reason I think we need stories is to learn a lesson and to apply it to our life. Stories can also remind us of our morals, too. I would think Disney is #1 in that department :)

  7. I believe drama is necessary for a number of reasons; it is an escape from reality, a stress reliever, and a form of entertainment. There are many different types of drama to suit just about every person; fiction & non-fiction, TV sitcoms, reality shows, news, plays, broadway shows, books, movies, etc. I also think people can relate to drama in their everyday lives and use what they have learned.

  8. I believe we need stories for education, entertainment, and advice. People watch plays, films, and television shows to escape from everyday life situations. While watching them, one would know that it is not it is not their problem, and they will most likely live happily ever after. The real world is stimulating enough, but I have found that people like drama in their life and they are able to get more drama by watching plays, films, and television shows.

  10. The reason I believe we choose to watch or read stories, plays and films is because the real world as stated can be so stimulating in fact that sometimes we use these fictions to lose ourselves and "get away from it all". For example, maybe you were suppose to make dinner for the family but for your own reasons you've forgotten to put a timer on the cookies, thus burning them to a crisp. You may comfort yourself watching a little television to take your mind off your families dessert-less distress.

  11. The reason we need stories like plays, movies, and t.v. shows is to think about something more entertaining than to always realize that you have the same routine of going to work, making sure you eat, and take care of the family. With stories you let your mind explore and develop your imagination. Personally I like action and comedy movies because they serve two things; something that I want to do but don't want to get hurt, and comedy always keeps me in a good mood and relieves stress.

  12. We are alway trying to identify ourselves with someone or something. watching a movie or a play is a way for us to escape and compare ourselves with a charactor to see if we would act the same.

  13. Reading literature and watching films, plays, and tv shows is a way to step out of the real world and stimulate our minds into the realm of where the impossible is possible such as great white sharks eating people, or if vampires sparkle in the sun light, or where humans could meet strange blue human-like creatures in the land of Pandora.

  14. There are so many reasons why we need to see other stories and plays, some are for entertainment and some are for comparing our lives and learning about ourselves, and some are for relaxation and stress relief. So the bottom line is that we use plays, films, and television shows throughout our lives.

  15. Watching plays, films, and television shows helps us tap into our imagination. Sometimes life itself for some people is stressful or not even exciting at all. Watching these things helps them to view what life would be like or how it feels to go through certain situations without ever going through them personally. Some people have wild imaginations and they think of things that we as humans know aren't humanly possible to achieve. So they create films and other things to help themselves and others visually understand their ideas and views.Yes films, shows, and plays are just a source of entertainment but, it's something that humans need in their daily lives.

  16. I do agree that the world is already stimulating enough; the generations nowadays don’t go outside or do anything that will stimulate the mind or use our imagination without electricity. My grandmother calls the television the idiot box. She reads the bible at night and when she summarizes some of the verses in the bible, I create a visual in my head as she it telling the story that how me and my grandmother bonds with stories.

  17. We need drama for many reasons. People who seek drama watch television or read fictitious material. People who go to movies almost always choose fictitious movies over nonfiction ones. We need drama to break from the real world. If we didn't have drama in our lives, life would be boring.

  18. No, theatre is an art. the expression of ones mind laid out in a sequence of events out in front on stage for every one to follow. It releases stress and pain. it is fun to do and attracts others. With out theatre there would be no life. Life is theatre.

  20. Theater, films, and television, are a way of entertainment. I think most people watch television because that's the lazy way out of theater. Watching other people perform is a way to escape their own lives and to watch other peoples stories. It's an escape from our daily lives. It also demonstrates a solution. A performance may show a situation and then solve that situation and that teaches the watchers what to do or what not to do in that certain situation.
Theater, television, films are part of our lives, we learn and grow with them for as far back as history goes.
